Jakarta – As Indonesia’s capital market marks 49 years since its reactivation, the market continues to strengthen its foundations to enhance quality, integrity, efficiency, and competitiveness amid evolving global market dynamics. These efforts are being pursued through structural reforms, infrastructure and product development, as well as broader access to investment opportunities for the public.
The milestone forms part of the 49th anniversary celebrations of Indonesia’s capital market, organized by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) together with the Self-Regulatory Organizations (SROs), comprising the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Indonesia Clearing and Guarantee Corporation (IDClear), and Indonesia Central Securities Depository (KSEI). Held under the theme “Sustainable Transformation for a Trusted and Resilient Capital Market,” the anniversary series began with a Trading Opening Ceremony at the IDX Main Hall, followed by a joint OJK-SRO press conference on Monday (August 10). The 49th anniversary ceremony was attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto; OJK Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners Friderica W. Dewi; Deputy Minister of Finance Juda Agung; OJK Chief Executive of Capital Markets, Derivatives Finance, and Carbon Exchange Supervision Hasan Fawzi; other members of the OJK Board of Commissioners; Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahir; the boards of directors and commissioners of the SROs; as well as representatives of associations and the investment management industry.
In his opening remarks, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said, “This anniversary serves as an important moment to maintain investor confidence in the domestic and international economies and financial markets, as the capital market has been a proxy for the economy watched by investors, particularly at strategic moments.”
Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung described the capital market as a catalyst for national economic growth. He added, “The government will continue to work in synergy with OJK and the IDX as SROs, capital market participants, and all relevant stakeholders to build a deeper, more inclusive and innovative financial market while maintaining prudent and credibility. Forty-nine years of Indonesia’s capital market journey demonstrate that our market continues to grow.”
Alongside with the 49th anniversary ceremony, Indonesia’s first Gold Exchange-Traded Funds (Gold ETFs) were officially launched, marked by the listing of five Gold ETF products issued by five investment managers: PT Indo Premier Investment Management through Premier ETF Gold Sharia Indonesia Mutual Fund (XGLD); PT Trimegah Asset Management through Trimegah Syariah ETF Emas Mutual Fund (XTRA); PT Mandiri Manajemen Investasi through Mandiri ETF Emas Mutual Fund (XMES); PT BRI Manajemen Investasi through BRI MI Gold ETF Syariah Mutual Fund (XDES); and PT Syailendra Capital through Syailendra ETF Sharia Gold Mutual Fund (XSGO).
The introduction of Gold ETFs marks a new milestone in the development of investment products in Indonesia’s capital market, offering investors with an alternative way to gain exposure to gold through exchange-traded instruments without having to directly own physical gold. The products are expected to broaden portfolio diversification and risk-management options, improve access for both retail and institutional investors, expand the investor base and ETF industry activity, support capital market deepening, and strengthen synergies with the development of the national bullion ecosystem.
As part of the 49th anniversary celebrations, a range of activities for the public, stakeholders, and the media will be held. Public activities include the Capital Market Summit & Expo, Virtual Trading Competition, Public Expose LIVE 2026, Capital Market Goes to Office, ESG Challenge, Social Media Video Competition, Sekolah Pasar Modal untuk Negeri, Integrated Capital Market Socialization and Education, and Capital Market Run. Stakeholder activities include CEO Networking as well as sports and e-sports tournaments, while media activities will include a Media Gathering as well as photo and article competitions. The anniversary series will also feature social initiatives through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program running from August 2026 through June 2027.
