PSE takes part in global ring the bell for gender equality initiative

Published on 08/03/2023

The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) marked International Women’s Day with an opening bell ringing event. The activity is in support of the global Ring the Bell for Gender Equality program.

“The PSE joins other member organizations of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) in ringing the bell to raise awareness on the importance of gender equality and women empowerment.  This activity is also a call to action among capital market stakeholders to work together on the advancement of gender equality,” said PSE President and CEO Ramon S. Monzon in his welcome remarks during the event.

This year, over 120 WFE member-organizations took part in the ring the bell for gender equality activity. WFE, Sustainable Stock Exchanges, UN Global Compact, UN Women, and International Finance Corporation co-organized the global initiative.

In his message, Mr. Monzon also cited the technology initiatives of the PSE that help women investors learn more about the equities market and equip them with the fundamentals of stock investing. This is in line with the DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality theme of International Women’s Day 2023. ”I believe this is aligned with the Exchange’s strategy of delivering more digital solutions not just for publicly listed companies and trading participants, but to retail investors as well.  At the PSE, we believe that financial freedom and economic prosperity should not only be an aspiration but a reality for all.  By providing access to online stock investing platforms and tools, women can work towards becoming smart and savvy investors.”

Since 2017, the PSE has participated in the annual bell ringing event to promote diversity and inclusivity in the work place.

As part of its Women’s Month celebration, the PSE held a webinar on Women in Corporate Leadership for publicly listed companies on Tuesday, March 7. The webinar was organized to help accelerate gender parity in PLCs. It featured AREIT, Inc. President and CEO Carol T. Mills, Cebu Air, Inc. Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Candice A. Iyog, and SM Investments Corporation Senior Vice President Elizabeth Anne C. Uychaco as panelists. The full webinar will be available in the official social media accounts of PSE.

Meantime, a session on the Women Empowerment Principles will also be hosted for Exchange employees on Thursday, March 9, in partnership with UN Women.
