Socialization of Capital Market as an Alternative Source of Company Funding in Surakarta, West Java

On Wednesday, 29 November 2023, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI), PT Kliring Penjaminan Efek Indonesia (KPEI) and the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance held “Socialization of Capital Market as an Alternative Source of Company Funding” at the Ballroom of OJK Office in Solo. This event is part of a series of 2023 Integrated Capital Market Socialization and Education (SEPMT) activities which aim to increase literacy and inclusion of the Indonesian capital market, especially regarding going public and listing its securities on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.

This event is a collaboration and synergy between OJK, BEI, KSEI, KPEI and the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance (DJP) in supporting the growth and inclusion of the capital market in Indonesia and encouraging companies to consider and look at the capital market as a potential alternative source of funding, as well as as a trusted house of growth.

The event began with an opening speech from the IDX Development Director, Jeffrey Hendrik. In his speech, Jeffrey said that Indonesia is a very attractive capital market for investors at the global level, with the 5th ranking in the world in terms of the number of IPOs and 7th in the world in terms of the amount of funds raised. Through an IPO and listing shares on the IDX, the company not only gets access to long-term funding that can accelerate the company’s growth, but can also improve its image on the world stage. Furthermore, a welcoming speech was given by Slamet Sutantyo as Head of the Central Java II Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes, and a keynote speech by Luthfy Zain Fuady as Head of the OJK Capital Market Licensing Department regarding the event to be held.

The presentation session was started by the Director of Licensing for Issuers and Public Companies of the OJK, Kunwidarto, who discussed the initial introduction to the capital market regarding Debt Securities instruments and especially Sukuk as an alternative for company funding. The material presentation was continued by the Head of the IDX 1 Listed Company Candidate Development Unit, Aditya Nugraha, regarding capital market highlights, the benefits of going public and the requirements to become a Listed Company on the BEI. The last speakers was the Intermediate Expert Tax Counselor for the Central Java II DJP Regional Office, Timon Pieter, who explained the tax incentives provided by the DJP to Listed Companies to encourage more companies to go public. The presentation closed with a question and answer (Q&A) session with the participants guided by the moderator, Chendyoga Surya Tantoro.
